AF can occur in almost anyone; however, the risks of developing AF increase with age. Once someone has reached the age of 40 the chances of having AF increases significantly. It is estimated that 1 in 4 of us will develop AF over our lifetime. The treatment options have to be individualized and medications and procedures to treat AF are now widely available. If you develop symptoms of AF it is important to have an EKG and find out, if in fact, you have it. The sooner AF is treated the better the chances for successful treatment.
